Clubs are so much fun!
At my school in Spokane, joining a club is optional, and the clubs do not get advertised much, so I never joined one. But in Japan, almost everyone in my school is required to join a club. The main exception to this is, the 3rd years (12th graders) are not required to join a club (probably because of getting ready for college). Other than this reason, I have had a hard time finding people who are not in a club.
Clubs are so much fun; I joined three!
1)けんどう (Kendo)
2)しょどう (Calligraphy)
3)American Football
I found out that once you join a club, you are pretty much signing up for 3 years, scary!
I was happy to hear, that in my High School, you can retire from club duties when you become a third year. I asked a class how many continued with a club as a third year and out of 40 people, 3 raised there hands. The 37 others who did not raise their hands, became proud members of the go home club.
I think it is nice of the school to give the third years a break. The break will lower the stress that comes with college entrance exams.
